Hi Adrian! This brings up a few really good questions that I'm happy to answer. Also grateful for your feedback :)

RE the profile switching behaviour in Creator:

    • Creator always matches the active profile to the active app on your system
    • The Universal profile type becomes active whenever a dedicated profile doesn't exist for an app. For example: if you have Photoshop and Universal profiles, the Universal profile will activate when you use Chrome or File Explorer (or any other app besides Photoshop) because they don't have dedicated profiles.
    • The Next Profile and Previous Profile keys always switch between profiles of the same type. Given the above example, they'd switch between multiple Photoshop profiles OR multiple Universal profiles, but would never switch you from a Photoshop profile to a Universal profile (or vice versa).

So with all this in mind, the best way forward is to create one or more Universal profiles that cover most your applications, and to use dedicated profiles for certain integrations like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc.—this lets you have specific and dedicated controls where they have the most impact, while falling back to a more generic set of controls that work across the entire breadth of your other apps.

RE Profile Switching breaking the media controls:

Quite honestly I have no idea how or why this is happening—it shouldn't be possible but I don't doubt your experience. I will reach out privately to arrange a troubleshooting call where we can figure out what's going on.

RE Multiple Apps supported in one profile:

This was the intent of the Universal profile. We opted to not add any of the integration-specific functions (ie a Photoshop or Premiere Pro-centric function) in this profile type, thinking it would be too confusing to the majority of Monogram owners. I will investigate if there are any workarounds that allow you to accomplish it.

In the meantime, I'd encourage you to use dedicated profiles for your Adobe CC apps and remember to switch window focus (ie Alt+Tab or click on the window) so that your Monogram profile follows along, and use the Universal profile type to cover your various other apps.

With all of the above said, this is the first release of Creator and we're open to feedback on all of the above behaviours. I hope the above clears up some questions to start :)

Thank you for getting back to me so fast, I tried to set up multiple Universal profiles, and profile switching seems to be working fine :) I understand better now how it's intended to be used.

The media controls breaking doesn't happen often, it's usually solved by restarting the software and it works throughout the day, perhaps there's some sort of USB power-saving mode that kicks in?

For the Universal profile/multiple apps use, I'll explain my way of thinking: I use several monitors in my work, with lots of different software open at once. If I for example want to use Premiere on my second screen and set it up so I can scrub through the timeline with the orbiter and I can have a word document on my main screen I can write my notes on. Currently I'd have to alt-tab a lot back and forth so Monogram has an "active window" to manipulate, if I could just lock the orbiter to always send signal to Premiere it would speed up my process a lot.

    I understand completely!

RE Media controls: If you find this continues to happen, it would be helpful to get the log files from your install. Please go to File Explorer and paste in the following filepath: %localappdata%\Monogram\

Then, copy both the "Creator" and "Service" folders into a zip and send it to support@monogramcc.com. This folder has logging for errors in both the software and in the core module firmware, so it's very useful for troubleshooting hard-to-reproduce problems like this.

RE Universal profile/multiple apps: Totally understand and will take this into account when looking at changes to our profiles & assignments framework. Given the current setup, the best workaround is to either A) to use dedicated profiles for key integrations like Premiere, B) to add some Premiere Pro shortcuts into your Universal profile, or C) some combination of the two.
