Creative Console MIDI - are the settings retained when disconnected?

One scenario would be to use something like the Creative Console with the Korg Kronos, which is capable of hosting Class Compliant MIDI devices.

The Kronos has a "return to middle" joystick for pitch bend and modulation but, being able to use a modulation wheel with the Kronos' synth engines has distinct advantages in terms of being able to retain a given modulation amount setting without having to constantly hold the control in position, freeing the left hand for other duties. Although the Kronos has an excellent control surface that can be configured to do this, that control surface is also used for other functions, e.g. control of Karma, realtime EQ, so having a dedicated set of external controls would allow the Kronos' control surface to be used for other things.

Great question. At present, and with the launch firmware, Creative Console will require a USB connection to a host computer running Monogram Creator in order to function as a MIDI device.

Because Creator has to be running to switch the console into its MIDI mode and to assign the various MIDI messages you choose (ie 3 sliders set to CC1, 11, and 21, etc), it doesn't fully fit the definition of a class compliant MIDI device.

What use case would this fit for you—what sort of USB-equipped devices are you hoping to connect your console to?

Awesome. Thanks for the detailed and insightful answer!

Does the Kronos have a "learn" capability for external MIDI controllers, or instead do you need the ability to assign custom MIDI messages to each of the modules individually, just as you can while assigned to a computer?

Put another way, is it good enough if Creative Console auto-assigns MIDI messages to each of the modules when in a standalone mode? Or, alternatively, do you need to be able to explicitly assign each input? For example: explicitly assigning a trio of Sliders to CCs 1, 11, and 20.
