Changing an app's default profile
AnsweredI have two profiles for Adobe Audition, one of which I use much more often than the other, but Palette defaults to opening the other, less used, profile. Is there a way to choose which profile opens by default? I have tried moving the one I want to the left position in the tabs view, and it's already higher alphabetically (starts with E where the other one starts with F). I'm not sure what dictates which profile gets default priority.

Hi Lucas, I want to make sure I'm understanding the behaviour of your Palette install properly—is it defaulting to this profile every time you switch back to Audition (ie you move to Premiere and then back to Audition and Palette switches profiles accordingly), or is it just doing this once per session?
Also, what would be your ideal in terms of determining the default profile for an app?I'll have to consult with a colleague who's back in the office on Monday. Let me know about the above and I'll find out more info for you ASAP.

Hi Andy. It's only defaulting to the "wrong" profile the first time I go to Audition. Once I've manually switched to the more common/preferred profile, it stays on that profile as expected (i.e. leaving Audition and then returning to it maintains the last-used profile).
I don't have an ideal in terms of determining the default profile; it could be whatever, as long as I know what it is that determines it! The two things I mentioned in my OP would seem logical though: alphabetical order, or in tab view, the left-most profile loads first.
Thanks for following up. Not a huge issue, just a minor inconvenience.

I agree, either of those would make sense.
When you have a minute, please send both profiles. Don't use the Save Profile dialogue in PaletteApp, but copy them directly from Palette's folder in the local app data; here's how:
1. Open macOS Finder or Windows Explorer2. Open the Go to Folder menu (Mac; shortcut Shift+Command+G) or click in the top filepath bar (Windows)
3. Paste in the following path: ~/Library/Application Support/Palette/PaletteAppV2/profiles (Mac) or %localappdata%\Palette\PaletteAppV2\profiles (Windows)
4. Send over any files ending in .plp via email (support@palettegear.com)
My suspicion is the order might be based on the internal filename that PaletteApp uses; having the profiles from your system will help prove or disprove this. Assuming this is the case, I'll have a workaround for you until we can establish a more straightforward UX for this.

Hi Lucas, thanks for sharing your profiles! I wanted to publicly share a quick follow-up for anyone interested.
In brief: It looks like I was mistaken; the profile chosen when re-opening PaletteApp is based on which profile was most recently used in the last session.

It's clear to me now that—in the context of a heavily linear workflow—the current behaviour would necessitate a profile switch each time you start a new session.
On the other hand, in a more non-linear workflow, this would be the desired behaviour.
The question, of course, is if we can solve this annoyance for you without creating a new annoyance for others with different workflows. I've gone ahead and logged this w/our team as an area to explore in upcoming profile-level enhancements. Absolutely open to feedback if anyone has specific ideas here. -
How about a checkbox in preferences that says "always load default profile on start", and if it's unchecked it'll load the most recently used profile instead. I guess then you'd have to also have some way to tell Palette which profile is your default profile. You also might want this preference to be different per app, so that could complicate things...
