Important note: Firmware updates are typically not mandatory, so you may continue to use your Creative Console without updating. Please disconnect and reconnect the USB cable after a failed firmware update in order to resume use of your Creative Console.
What is Firmware
Firmware is software installed in your Monogram Core. Every Monogram Core comes pre-installed with it. Occasionally, updates are made to the firmware to fix bugs, improve performance, and add new features.
We will highlight any changes to the firmware in Monogram Creator Release Notes.
How Firmware Update Works
When you click on "Update Firmware" in Monogram Creator, your Core Module ceases regular functionality in order to prepare for the new Firmware.
The Firmware Update icon will be displayed on your Core module.
In rare situations, such as an interrupted Firmware Update, it may not be possible to automatically prepare your Monogram Core for Firmware Update. In this case, Firmware Recovery is required. To learn more about Firmware Recovery, click here.
Failed Firmware Update
We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties performing a firmware update. Please refer to explanations for the error messages below.
Note that firmware updates are typically not mandatory, so please continue to enjoy your Console as normal in the meantime.
If you are still unable to complete a firmware update, please contact us at support@monogramcc.com
Found multiple devices in Firmware Update / Could not locate the correct device
- Try to unplug other USB devices such as MIDI devices, Game controllers, Arduino, or other USB accessories
- We use the standard STM32 USB Bootloader Interface to perform firmware update.
- Other devices (such as Adafruit Feather, STM32-based Mechanical Keyboards, etc...) may also use this interface and/or install their own drivers for this interface.
- Other vendors may refer to this as "DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) Mode" or "Recovery Mode"
- (Windows Only) You may need to select the correct driver for the device in Firmware Update Mode:
- Place your Core in Firmware Update Mode either using Monogram Creator or manually
- In Device Manager, under "Universal Serial Bus devices", find "STM32 BOOTLOADER"
- If you already see "STM Device in DFU Mode", then you may have the correct driver installed already
- Right click on it and select "Update drivers"
- Select "Browse my computer for drivers" and
- Select "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"
- Select "STM Device in DFU Mode" and click Next
- Now attempt Firmware Update again from Monogram Creator. You may be prompted to use "Recovery Mode" -- you do not need to manually enter Firmware Update mode if the firmware Update icon is still displayed on your Core module

Could not find your Monogram Core module for Firmware Update
- Please check USB cable connection
- Try to connect directly to a USB port on your computer; don't go through a hub
- If using a desktop computer, try using USB ports on the back of the machine. Those ports are connected directly to the motherboard and may be more reliable / able to provide more stable power
- If you're on Windows, try running Creator as Administrator.
- If you were attempting to manually enter Firmware Update Mode, please try again. Note that the RESET button must be pressed continuously while the USB cable is being plugged in.
- (Windows Only) You may need to select the correct driver for the device in Firmware Update Mode:
