Automatic Connection (preferred)
Palette uses a combination of Extensions and Plugins to control all supported Adobe CC applications. Before using Palette with these applications, a quick setup is required to ensure their successful connection.
- Close all Adobe CC applications. Failing to close any apps will prevent their respective Extensions and/or Plugins from installing properly.
- Create profiles for all your Adobe CC applications. Palette may not detect the application yet, this is normal—creating a profile will prompt its respective Extension or Plugin to be placed in the proper directory.
- Enter an Administrator password if prompted. This is required to install all necessary components automatically.
- Re-open your Adobe CC applications. If the above steps were successful, each profile will display a green plug at its bottom right. This may take 15-20 seconds after opening your Adobe apps while the connection is established.
Manual Connection
Rarely, this connection cannot be established following the above steps. See the instructions below to manually enable connection to your Adobe CC apps.
Jump to:
- Lightroom Plugin
- Adobe Extension (all Adobe CC apps except Lightroom)
- Premiere Pro Plugin
- Audition Plugin
Lightroom Plugin
- Open Lightroom (Compatible with CC 2014-2015, Classic CC, and 6).
- Navigate to File > Plug-in Manager
- Select Palette Plugin (V2) from the left-side plugin list
- Select Status > Enable
- Return to PaletteApp. Navigate to your Lightroom profile or create a new one by clicking the Lightroom Classic icon.
- Wait up to 20 seconds for PaletteApp to detect Lightroom. The bottom right corner of your profile should now display a green plug icon to signify successful connection.
How to Reload the Lightroom Plugin
- Open Lightroom
- Navigate to File > Plug-in Manager
- Select Palette Plugin (V2) from the left-side plugin list
- Select Status > Disable
- Select Plug-in Author Tools > Reload Plug-in
- Select Status > Enable
Adobe Extension
Enabling the Adobe Extension will allow Palette to communicate with all Adobe CC applications (with the exception of Lightroom, covered above).
Note: Premiere Pro CC and Audition CC require plugins to be enabled in addition to this extension; see below for steps to enable these plugins manually.
- Ensure all Adobe CC apps are closed.
- Open PaletteApp, then create a profile for Photoshop CC.
- Select the plug icon from the bottom right.
- Select "Re-Install Adobe Extension" from the troubleshooting list.
- Re-open your Adobe CC apps. Wait up to 20 seconds for a connection to be established; the bottom right corner of each profile should now display a green plug icon to signify successful connection.
Premiere Pro Plugin
- Open Premiere Pro CC (Compatible with CC 2015.3 and later).
- MacOS Users: Navigate to Premiere Pro CC > Preferences > Control Surface (shortcut Command+Comma)
Windows Users: Navigate to Edit > Preferences > Control Surface (shortcut Control+Comma) - Select "Add" to select a new control surface. Choose the Device Class drop-down, select "Palette Plugin (V2)", and select OK.
- Wait up to 20 seconds for PaletteApp to detect the Premiere Pro Plugin. The bottom right corner of your profile should now display a green plug icon to signify successful connection.
Audition Plugin
- Open Audition CC (Compatible with CC 2015 and later).
- MacOS Users: Navigate to Premiere Pro CC > Preferences > Control Surface (shortcut Command+Comma)
Windows Users: Navigate to File > Preferences > Control Surface (shortcut Control+Comma) - Select the Device Class drop-down, choose "Palette Plugin (V2)", and select OK.
- Wait up to 20 seconds for PaletteApp to detect the Audition Plugin. The bottom right corner of your profile should now display a green plug icon to signify successful connection.

I am using my palette for the first time and I am unable to connect to Lightroom V 5.7.1 on my Mac Pro (Late 2013) running macOS Sierra V 10.12.6. I have followed all the instructions on this page, the base station indicates that I am on a Lightroom preset, yet at the bottom right it still reads, 'disconnected'. When I go to plug-in manager to enable Palette, the screen reads, 'This plug-in is enabled, but has encountered some problems'. In the diagnostic text file, it lists three errors related to the fact that it can't find LrDevelopController.
Hi Casey, I believe this is due to the version of Lightroom that you have installed—the Palette plugin is compatible with Lightroom 6, Lr CC 2014-2015, and Lr Classic.
Please select "Submit a Request" at the top right or email support@palettegear.com if you want to troubleshoot further.
Hi, I try to use my Palette on Indesign CS6. The palette software detected that I'm trying to use Indesign (because shows in the little screen the image of Indesign) but no shows in the extensions menu. The same situation I got in photoshop. Help me please (I use iMac with HighSierra). Thanks
Hi Marcos, this is likely happening as CS6 is an earlier version than what Palette supports for both InDesign and Photoshop... our integration depends on Adobe developer tools added in CC 2015 and later; the CS6 versions simply lack these tools and therefore they won't run the Palette Extension.
There is a workaround that will allow you to use Palette with the CS6 versions, via keyboard shortcuts.
Select any button or dial in PaletteApp, and then select "Keyboard Mode" from the left-hand side. Assign your desired shortcuts—for example, if you assign the left and right square bracket keys to the left and right turns of a dial, it will control Brush Size in Photoshop.
Here's an article explaining our Keyboard Mode in more detail.
And here are lists of shortcuts for Photoshop and InDesign. I hope this helps you get set up!
